Chapter 1 Blog 1

I really admire the pastor of my church as a public speaker. He is a very likable, believable, and passionate speaker that captures the audiences attention. It is so easy to sit and listen to Ray Johnson (Bayside Church, Granite Bay) speak on even difficult topics. He has power to persuade others through ethos, pathos, and logos. I believe that ethos, personal character, is the most important in his case. He is credible, and churches worldwide ask him to come and speak. He arranges his sermons is a very easy to follow and logical format which fits into the logos classification. Pathos is seen in his ability to evoke emotion from the audience when appropriate.
I tend to be a very logical communicator, and find it difficult to communicate with too much emotion at times. I do fit into Aristotle's classification of logos, where i use logic and wording in order to be persuasive.

Introductory Post

Hello everyone!
My name is Trish. I'm 28, married to the greatest guy ever, have an 8 year old son, and we live in Yuba City. I'm currently 37 weeks pregnant (with another BOY!), and on bed rest for pre-eclampsia. C-section any day now. I'm so ready!!! I think it's going to be tough to go to school (10 units) with a newborn and a 3rd grader (who is a type 1 diabetic) but i'm using my GI Bill and we can't afford to have me take a semester off. Bummer. :) I get the GI Bill for my 8 years in the Air Force flying on C-5's and C-130's as a loadmaster. I absolutely loved it, miss it terribly, and can't figure out what to do now so i'm taking random classes to figure it out. Nothing compares to tactical airlift and flying all over the world. ;) I should have known!! I'm just going to power through with the rest of you and hope that the semester plugs along without a hitch. I really enjoy Communication classes, but this will be my first on-line Comm class. It should be interesting. I've also never blogged, so i'm already learning new things. :)
